Faith Verse Christmas Blog Hop - November 30, 2011

Hello Friends!

Welcome to my blog! Today we are here to give God the Glory for what is the real reason of the Season with our favorite verse for Christmas that means so much to us...please read and enjoy the creations these wonderful ladies did on their blog.  Now lets get this party started!

If you came from Kari then you are in the right place if you happened upon my blog then start at Kari's at PurpleFuntastick Creations...as I wouldn't want you missing a thing!

We have a prize to give away that all you must do is comment on every blog along the way...easy peasy! :)

My verse for today's blog is: Luke 2:8-14

And suddenly there was with the angel
a multitude of the heavenly host
praising God, and saying,
Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace,
good will toward men.

Now, for me, I remember this verse as a child watching this with my brother and later with my other brother and sister as this very classic Christmas program. Now, for a little history, "A Charlie Brown Christmas is the first prime-time animated TV special based upon the comic strip Peanuts, by Charles M. Schulz. It was produced and directed by former Warner Brothers and UPA animator, Bill Melendez, who also supplied the voice for the character of Snoopy. Initially, sponsored by Coca-Cola, the special debuted on CBS in 1965, and has been aired during the Christmas season every year since on CBS through 2000, and on ABC since 2001. Long an annual telecast, the special is now shown at least twice during the weeks leading up to Christmas. The Special has been honored with both an Emmy and Peabody Award. Since its original air-date, the Special has become a classic to watch during the Christmas season."  "Charlie Brown complains about the overwhelming materialism that he sees everywhere during the Christmas season even with his dog! Lucy suggests that he become director of the school Christmas pageant, and Charlie Brown accepts, but it proves to be a frustrating struggle. When an attempt to restore the proper spirit with a forlorn little fir Christmas tree fails, Charlie Brown needs Linus' help to learn what the real meaning of Christmas is."

With this in mind, I found some Charlie Brown coloring pages on the internet and varied the sizes to get not only the front of my card; but also the inside which were colored with my Prisma coloring pencils along with shading!!! I cut out the shapes and attached them with puff dots to make them stand out a bit! I even drew my poor little forlorn tree for the front!

I used the quote from Linus in the show to be featured on the inside as this is what Christmas is

as the whole gang is singing on the opposite side! There is some glitter for the star on top of the tree with just a little love it is now a full tree!!!

The outside edge of my card, I used my Martha Stewart Holly punch as it just screamed it needed pizzazz!

Just to bring back all those warm fuzzies of our childhood:

A Charlie Brown Christmas - Linus tells the story

Thanks for stopping by and hope you have been inspired and remember the important reason for the season! :)

Your next stop is my dear buddy and partner in crime, Susan!

I want to welcome you to a new friend and wonderful designer to you today with the most phenomenal project to share with you!!! This wonderful crafter's name is April Nourse from www.curlsandgrins.blogspot.com/ and please make sure you stop by and give her some bloggie love and check out her projects!!!

Attached are 2 cards I created over the weekend for my Guest Designer spot for Her Craftiness.

When I count my blessings, my grandma always make the top of the list.  When I was born, my mother was ill and unable to care for me and my father was already gone from our lives.  My grandparents stepped in and raised me.  My grandmother was patient, love, kindness and everything good wrapped in one person.  She was always available for anyone who needed her or just needed someone to listen.  She is who I want to be.  In 2009, she was diagnosed with cancer and succombed very quickly despite her excellent health.  Today is our second year to celebrate her birthday and the blessing that she was to us without being able to hug her.  We miss her so much but keep her alive in our hearts and the way I raise my children.

These cards are inspired by my grandma's 18th birthday picture.

I used the Sonoma papers and Sweet Moments stamp set from Close to my Heart - www.ctmh.com/aprilnourse.  I also used the Art Philosophy cricut cartridge from Close to my Heart to cut the shapes before stamping.

Thank you for allowing me to share!

April, actually thank you sew much for being my Guest Designer!!!! Your grandmother is beautiful both on the outside and inside!!!

WOO HOO!!! I'm a Guest Designer at 3 Girls Jam!

I am sew privileged and honored to be a Guest Designer today for 3 Girls Jam!!! You sew have to go and check them out as they have the most fabulous ribbons that will be in my budget the beginning of the year not to mention the most fabulous colors!!!!!!!

My project for you today is a 3 dimensional project. I find that I love making these kind of projects along with finding myself drawn to them! I must have this self-destruct mode and granted, I have threatened never to do another after my 3 dimensional after my haunted house for Halloween!!! But, yes, I did it again!!!!

The church is from Winter Wonderland Cricut cartridge. It measures a whopping 4-inches tall!!!!! I had a piece of scrap paper to begin my project for the stained glass window. Now to my delight, I have found the inner sanctum of the church is in one piece!!! (YIPPEE!!) The church is from my beloved Immortal Love which I hate to cut into but its purrfect for the sanctuary. The roof, doors, and steeple are all from scrap also! Add a little battery operated light for the inside and it looks beautiful as I was hoping to show with my pictures, but alas, no you aren't able to appreciate the beautiful church as I am while sitting here in my living room! Ok, I may do some of my best writing in the dark!!! <LOL>

Thank you ever sew much for stopping by today --- I know I have a lot of wonderful projects for your viewing pleasure and I do hope you take the time to check out everything!!!!

Guest Designer with My Dear Friend Jearise Havenga!!!

Thank you Jearise for being such a wonderful friend for filling in for me today and please don't forget to stop by and visit her most wonderful blog to give bloggie love!!!

Yesterday I was in a wonderful blog hop entitled Hello Kitty's Christmas Party hosted by Lynne from My Craftiness and now today I get the honor of being a guest designer on her blog. I feel so honored to be back and showing off some of my craftiness. : )

My daughter is celebrating her birthday this month and the theme is Hello Kitty. In yesterday's blog hop, I showed off cupcake Hello Kitty toppers I made and a Hello Kitty button pin for the birthday girl. Here is the link if you would like to check them out: Hello Kitty's Christmas Party. I am now working on the invites for the party and would like to share what I have created for those.

Here is my invite. I used the cute little kitty head that I used on the cupcake toppers and in the button pin.

I used cream card stock and printed out the words "It's a Hello Kitty Birthday Party!" I then used my Cuddlebug to add the snowflake embossing. I found that I could emboss two pieces of card stock at the same time. This saved time since I had to emboss 20 of these.

I bought a value pack of note cards from The Paper Studio and used them instead of making cards. I then cut my background paper at 5.25 x 3.75. I used ColorBox red chalk ink to put around the outside of the inside card stock. I waited to do the ink chalking until after I finished the embossing. I could have done it before but you get a different look when you do it afterwards. I added the little bow just because I thought the card needed something extra.

Thanks for stopping by today and checking out my kitty. A special thank you to Lynne for letting me invade her blog space.

Hugs from Jearise in Lorby's World.

Thanks Jearise for filling in for me --- this is a phenomenal project!!! Hugs and love!!!
God Bless!!!

For my project, I have cut Hello Kitty with her new winter coat card cut at the super-size of 10.75 inches tall!!!! The coat is cut from a Christmas plaid from last year's Christmas stack that was combined with Halloween and Thanksgiving. Thankful All Year Long

Granted, Thanksgiving is theoretically over but shouldn't you be thankful all the year long. I know when we asked Sasha what she was thankful for, she was thankful for her new bubble wagon as she was a good girl and she said she deserved it! When Jerry was asked he was thankful for dinner on the table! Ok, these are some things to be thankful for but as for me, I'm thankful for my grandchildren, my wonderful children, and my friends that I have made on Facebook and blogging!

I had made a few Thanksgiving cards to be sent and wanted to share them with you now....

This first one was done by Facebook chatting with my dear friend, Susan, and was done as I refer to as a "wing and a prayer". There were elements that I liked and just wanted to implement them in this card. The Thanksgiving is from the Designer Calendar Cricut cartridge cut at 3-inches and was placed on a decorative circle cut at 2.75 inches from the E2 built-in cartridge Essentials. I loved the decorative circle sew very much that I also cut one for the inside to place my sentiment on. The cute little leaf was cut from the Accent Essentials Cricut cartridge.

I loved the little sentiment from my clear stamper that I used the chocolate stamp on the orange.

Now, for my next little card, I used SVG Attics Fall Celebration card with the adorable 3-dimensional pumpkins on the front. The paper is from last year and I love the leaves along with implementing the color purple!!!

This is the same file that I had used to make my little placecard pumpkins!!! For the inside, I used my purple ink pad (guess Kari is wearing off on me!) and stamped the little sentiment on the inside!

What are you thankful for????

Be Thankful year round - thank you for stopping by today . . .

God Bless

Its Turkey Time!!!

Happy day after Thanksgiving - Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!! Are tummies all filled with turkey? Well, here's the story of one turkey that got away . . .

This little fellow hid behind the clutter in my craft room over in that dense little corner - I'm sure you can relate to which corner I'm talking about!!! It's that one where the scrap paper slips off to along with those scissors someone has misplaced, or that hole punch that you just have to have to finish that project!! But he's safe to tell his story and is just hanging around my place!!!! Let's call him Chester Turkey to protect the innocent!

Chester was cut using the Create a Critter first being cut from a cereal box using the shadow. Of course the cereal already has been eaten!! I love to recycle cereal boxes for projects that need that extra stability which of course Chester does to be able to stand tall!!!! Chester is cut at 10.25 inches, the largest that could be cut from a 12 x 12 size of paper! I then cut another shadow using the black and glued the two together using my glue ride and setting it aside for future piecing. The balance of Chester is cut using scraps from my scrap boxes and a piece of ribbon that says hay ride put through my Xyron along with is beak and gobbler. The dark brown paper is a brown satin from Pat Catan's that had gone on clearance over the summer. Googly eyes just add to his whimsy and I wanted something else to finish him and added buttons to his tail feathers using my black Stickles to put them on!!! For hanging, I using my smallest hole punch, no the other is still missing, and punched a whole on either side and inserted the wire that I had curled on a pencil and just added an additional curl after strung through.

Chester is sew thrilled that he escaped the inevitable and that he lived to tell his story but most important that he will be around for years to come to relive his story year after year with I'm sure embellishing the story just a mite!!!!

Thank you ever sew much for stopping by and hearing the story of Chester Turkey!!!! Hope you had a blessed Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving my Friends

It's Thanksgiving my very most favorite holiday. This is a time to reflect and to give thanks for our bountiful blessings! Thanksgiving gives me warm fuzzy feelings of Thanksgiving gone past when my grandparents were alive and Gram in the kitchen. She decorated the house with warm wonderful scents of pies and food. Too bad, this isn't scent blog and you could enjoy them with me!!! <LOL>! This Thanksgiving, I am going to remember those scents, memories, and love that was showered and not reflect on the negative which we sometimes do! I'm watching Sasha very early this morning and thought her and I would decorate the house with pumpkins, set the table, and have the house filled with wonderful scents of Thanksgiving present!

To be festive, I made the little 3-d pumpkin place cards from SVG Attic Fall Celebration Kit which by the way, is on sale!!! I cut the pumpkins from an orange from a pack and Sasha used the various embossing folders for the Cuttlebug to emboss each piece just to add some dimension!!!. Finished pumpkins measure 3-1/2 inches tall. Note to self, instead of rolling the brown paper per instructions, next time I make these I will add a cinnamon stick for the stem. Great little favor for the guests to take home not to mention a special Thanksgiving memory for them. The glue gun is a must to assemble them together. Add the little leaf with the the person's name tied with waxed linen and you have beautiful place cards to decorate your table!!!

As I sit here with my cup of hot cinnamon chai and prepare for today's meal and Sasha, not only do I reflect but I give thanks for what I have in my life as they are the true blessings! I will do my best not to reflect on the past with wishful thinking and tearful thoughts of what could of, should of, and would of. But instead reflect on the happy memories!!!  I wish you and yours a very blessed Thanksgiving with wonderful memories and scents. As to the place cards, you may not have the time to make them for this Thanksgiving table, but the funny thing, it will come around next year and you will have the opportunity to have them to create your own memories!!!

Happy Thanksgiving God Bless

Thanksgiving Memories

Lucky me --- I'm Kari's Guest Designer today at http://purplefuntastickcreations.blogspot.com/ and thought I would be reminiscent of my youth and hopefully not bore you -

For my project today, I am showing a little wallhanging that I hang in my dining room to  remind me of how thankful I am! The pattern that was used is "Such an Angel" by Nancy Halverson. I just love how it hangs at an angle with the use of a pumpkin button with the little heart shaped hook!

For my Bible verse, I have chosen: Psalm 107:1  Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.

When I was growing up, all of my wonderful memories of Thanksgiving begin with my grandparents, John and Molly Brenckle. Now, they are the most wonderful inspiration couple that endured a blessed life together. I was basically raised by my grandparents and witnessed not only their love for each other but their love for Jesus. Now, Pap granted he would go in his little tyrants and say how he felt about the preacher. But Gram on the other hand, was a sweet, loving, Christian who taught me the love of Jesus. For this I am very very thankful.

The picture above is of me and my Pap . . . I always looked up to him and I was his langa beine leibschen (long legged lovely).

I want to tell you a bit about Gram . . . a lot of my memories center around the dining room table. Gram of course was the best cook but she always made enough food for just one more. Her reasoning was that if Jesus would knock at the door, there was always a place for him to sit at her table along with food to serve him. I guess, I have incorporated that with my cooking -- but at times, Jesus can bring a whole army with him with the amount of extra food that I have prepared!

We didn't have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner of turkey, stuffing, sweet potatoes and such but we were proud to call a German Thanksgiving dinner with roast beef, or as Pap would say roasta beef, of course gravy and then the most delectable potato dumpling that would have buttery fried bread crumbs in the center and rolled into a snowball and boiled in water which were called Kartoffelkloesse. My mouth is watering now but the best part would be the following day where Gram would slice them and then brown them in butter! Alright, there went an extra 10 pounds on the scale!!!!

Thanksgiving to me is memories of my wonderful grandparents. I thank God for their love and that they instilled in me the path in life. The wonderful smells of the kitchen, my grandmother always showing her love and faith with her delectable German food . . . these are the things that instill the importance of family with warm memories. Thank you Gram and Pap . . . I still have the table ready for Jesus if he would come knocking as you had taught. Much love and miss you both!

Thanks Kari for giving letting me be you Guest Designer as I most definitely consider it a priviledge especially this time of the year as it brings back those warm fuzzy holiday memory feelings!

God Bless

Lynne

Happy Birthday Jerry

Well, Jerry's birthday was Saturday, but with the 2 blog hops, I didn't want to post his birthday card. To give you a bit of information about Jerry, he loves to play Angry Birds on his Droid --- did I mention that he turned 62 years old on Saturday and that he's my husband??? Guess, not <lol>

Well, as we know there is no cartridge or svg file for Angry Birds or the Pig King YET! I'll start with the Pig King -- he is a 4-inch circle with 2 - 2-inch circles placed for his ears and then I welded the pieces. The next circle is 2.5 inches which I elongated for the pig's snoot which is a separate piece which I attached with puff dots and added black rhinestone bling bling (well, he is the Pig King, isn't he?). I used my circle punch for his eyes with adding black dots in the center. Now, all the King needs is a crown which I had done a search on Make the Cut and found his royal crown and tipped it at a jaunty angle!!!

For the red bird, I used 3 Birds on Parade Cricut cartridge with a few modifications: I cut the first bird but using the shift which gives me the round shape. I traced the bottom part on beige cardstock and glued to the bottom of the red bird for his belly. I had cut the wings off the bird and shaped the one for the little comb on the top. As for the beak, I cut by hand 2 triangles and shaped them to give him an angry look and glued them on a white piece of paper for the inside of his mouth! Using the scissors, I cut a black tail and eyebrows to glue on. A little bit of shading with my Prisma pencils and googly eyes and we have an angry bird to attach with puff dots flying at the Pig King! SNORT SNORT SNORT (that's pig laughing at how old you are Jerry language)

The background was embossed with my Cuttlebug Swirl Embossing folder just to give movement and texture along with a few additional black lines!

The sentiment "you take the cake" is also from 3 Birds on Parade cut at 1.75 inches.

For the verse on the inside, I stamped "Happy Birthday" several times and then colored with my Prisma pencils.

Now, those who follow my blog also know that my daughter has the most amazing talent in cake baking and decorating and what's a special birthday without showing you Jean's cake ---

Did you sense a theme???

Hope you are loving this card as much as I had fun making and creating!!!

God Bless

Lynne

Thankful Hearts Blog Hop

Welcome to Thankful Hearts Blog Hop - if you're here for the Hopping through the Holidays, please click here, or please feel free to check out our projects for Thankful Hearts Blog Hop.

Thanksgiving is one of those holidays which always seems rushed! Rush to get the turkey and all of the fixin's. Rush to make out your Black Friday Shopping List and then rush everyone home to go do your shopping. Rush to have dinner done either before the football games or during halftime. Rush to visit family and friends. Rush to Eat and Eat and Eat! And when all is said and done and the rush is over - you might say "I'm grateful just to sit down and relax"!

Well, this year is different, it's time to sit back, take it easy without the rush. With Thanksgiving being one of our favorite holidays, it is a time to be thankful, reflectful, and to have a thankful heart. Sasha, Lynne's 6 year old granddaughter, has a heart shaped box which was conceived from a cartoon character that she watches,  Kai-lan. Kai-lan is a Chinese girl that wears a heart-shaped box around her neck and fills it with things that makes her heart happy.

We want to share "what makes our heart happy" and thankful through either cards and/or layouts. It is time to reflect and remember that the first Thanksgiving was celebrated to give thanks to God for a bountiful Harvest. Our Harvest is our lives. We are expressing our Thanks from our hearts to God and the people who have come into our lives whether they be family or friends.

We do have some blog candy to offer to help you finish your fall projects just in time to start your holiday projects which include self-stick gems, stick pin, Candi foam pads, and a Family Scrapbook Kit along with a paper mache heart to decorate to hold the things that make your heart happy! To be eligible for the blog candy, please leave a comment on each of the participants along with what you're thankful for or what makes your heart "happy".

Here's the line-up in case you get lost along the way as I'm sure all the breadcrumbs are being used for "stuffing" . . .

  1. Lynne  - http://slasewcraftiness.blogspot.com/
  2. Susan  - http://susanascorner.blogspot.com/
  3. Amy - http://www.lovetocrop.com/
  4. Shawnee - http://www.blessedonthebrightside.com/
  5. Jearise - http://lorbysworld.blogspot.com
  6. Anita-  http://www.anitaandbugs.blogspot.com
  7. Kari - http://purplefuntastickcreations.blogspot.com/

I have made a heart similar to Kai-Lan to hold some of the things that makes my heart "happy".

I covered a paper-mache heart with cardstock on the top and bottom sides. The side of the top, I covered with ribbon to coordinate with my heart. The sentiment on the top is cut at 1.75 from Thanksgiving Cricut cartridge. The little bling bling flowers were from a RAK from Janet Smith - thank you Janet, you're the best! Holes were drilled on the bottom of the heart to string ribbon through which was also in the RAK package from Janet.

Now, for the inside as to what makes my heart "happy", I thought I would use as the "literal" sense with silhouettes cut in coordinating colors. These were cut in various sizes ranging from 2 inches to 2.50 inches from A Child's Year Cricut cartridge and Heritage Cricut cartridge.

Some of the things that make my heart "happy" is the Bible, nature, God's house, children, parents, schools, friends, and a roof-over-my head.

Your next stop along the way is the amazing crafty talents of a dear friend, Susan

Thank you sew much for hopping along with us today! Have a very Blessed Thanksgiving with the things that make your heart happy!

God Bless,
Hugs and Love,
Lynne
